Many people believe that religion is only a ritualized system of beliefs and practices which should not be included in the affairs of a society. Most of these people think religion and society both are completely different entities. With the advancement of technology and science, many societies has abandoned or separated their religion from the society. People from such kind of society think that religion should be practiced in the spiritual places only. But if we think deeply we would find that religion and society are not separate entities at all. Religion and society both are interconnected and dependent to
each other. Religion is not only ritual system but also a proper way of life. Religion is very important for a society to find peace and prosperity at the same time. With the advancement of technology and science a society can consider them modern but cannot find real peace prosperity. Religious values are very important in the society because it gives us the proper way of life. Without religion human cannot act correctly in this world because they lack the proper way of life. People living a society without the religious value faces different kinds of problem such as - higher rate of crime, frustrations, anxieties of daily life etc.
The importance of religion in the Public sphere is described below:
Purifies the heart- Religion purifies the heart of a human being and guides him
to the right path. It gives a human the emotion to feel the pain of others and distinguish between the right and wrong.Makes a person Optimistic- Religious people usually do not lose their hope so easily. They always believe that there is a God who is testing them in this world. As a result religious people do not get frustrated easily and stay optimistic about their lives.
Controls crime: A Society with a religious value and religious law has much less crime rate compare to the societies which does not give any priority to religion. People with religious value believe that there is God who is watching all of their activities; if they commit any crime or sin they will be punished in afterlife. This fear of God brings integrity to the people and leads their life to the path of honesty. This helps a society to decrease the crime rate significantly.
Social Welfare: Religion performs many social welfare activities like charity, spreading knowledge, protecting the environment etc. for the society.
